Australia General Skilled Migrant Program
Skilled – Independent (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 175)
This visa allows you to migrate to Australia if you have good English language skills and qualifications in an occupation in need in Australia (as per shedule3). Australia General Skilled Migrant program is meant for professionals and skilled workers, who do not have an Australian employer or an Australian relative sponsoring them or even a job offer in hand but still wish to immigrate to Australia. Candidates are tested on a Point Based System.
This visa uses a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market.
This visa is for you if you:
- are under 50 years of age
- have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL 1).
The SOL is a list of skilled occupations that are in need in Australia. It is mandatory to have your skills on SOL 1 to apply for this visa. These are no points allocated for the skill.
This visa allows you and any secondary applicants included in your visa application.

Skilled – Sponsored (Migrant) Visa (Subclass 176)
This visa allows you to migrate to Australia if you have good English language skills and have skills and qualifications in an occupation in need in Australia.This visa uses a points test to select visa applicants with characteristics needed in the Australian labour market.
This visa is for you if you:
- are under 50 years of age
- have the skills and qualifications that meet the Australian standard for an occupation on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL 1 and SOL 2)
you must be nominated by state or territory government under a state migration plan.
This visa entitles you to:-
- This visa allows you and any secondary applicants included in your visa application to live as permanent residents in Australia.
- study in Australia.
- receive healthcare
- access certain social security payments
- be eligible for Australian citizenship (subject to the residency eligibility criteria)
- sponsor for permanent residence.
Skilled – Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclass 475)
The Skilled Regional Sponsored (Provisional) Visa (Subclasses 475) is for the applicants who agree to live and work in a regional Australian area. The three year visa allows the applicants to apply for a PR after living in the regional area for two years and employed for a minimum of one year.
This visa requires you to be either:
- nominated by a participating state or territory government agency
or - Sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia.
- You are in SOL 1 and SOL 2.
This visa entitles you and family to:
- Live and work in the state.
- Be eligible for PR visa.
- Sponsor spouse on TR visa.
